Gene Targeting: Antisense Rna Technology And Rna Interference Technology
Two methods that pharmaceutical companies are using to make drugs that can block the expression of disease-causing proteins are: antisense RNA, and the dsRNAi (double strand RNA interference) technologies. Two American scientists were awarded the 2006 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their discovery of RNA interference. This article explains briefly the difference between the two technologies and offers a summary of each mechanism. The exercise is appropriate for AP biology students. More
